Sports Massage
What is Sports Massage?
Sports massage was developed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training. From Pros to weekend warriors, more and more people are realizing that a complete workout routine includes recovery from the wear-and-tear + minor injuries that naturally occur with strenuous movement. Both physiological + psychological benefits of massage make it an ideal complement to a total conditioning program.
Sports massage involves the use of a variety of techniques to achieve your desired goal. There are four types of sports massages:
Pre-event: a short massage given before an athletic event. It warms-up + stimulates the major areas that will be involved in the exertion.
Post-event: given after an athletic event, to normalize the body's tissues.
Restorative: given during training to allow the athlete to train harder and with less injury.
Rehabilitative: aimed at alleviating pain due to injury and returning the body to optimal health.
Your therapist will work closely with you to determine the appropriate techniques are applied to best suit your goals. Whether you’re experiencing a minor injury, trying to recover from overtraining, or want to work on balancing range of motion, sports massage can be a valuable component of your routine.
