The soaring summer heat of the Arizona desert can leave us craving not-so-healthy cold treats. Although sometimes necessary, it can be difficult in the heat of the moment to opt-out of the sugar laden cold treats for more pure water to stay hydrated. Luckily, with a little bit of preparation we can make much healthier treat options to cool off at home. This refreshing watermelon agua fresca is a summer staple for the whole family and takes all of 5 minutes to make!
Ingredients:
4 cups watermelon (rind removed)
2 cups ice
1 cup cold water
2 Tbsp. chia seeds
Juice of 1/2 lemon
Combine all ingredients in bender and blend until juicy. Pour into glasses and enjoy!
Optional ingredients to add for an extra boost:
Fresh herbs- (like mint) pack in extra nutrients and flavor.
Probiotic powder- sneak in some gut-balancing microbes.
Prickly pear juice or syrup- incredible cooling properties that are great for the summer heat!
